FAQ
Everything about how ShiftSee works. If you don't find what you need, email us at contact@shiftsee.com.
ShiftSee is a platform that helps small and mid-sized businesses schedule their shift crew, fill last-minute cancellations, and build a workforce of trusted shifters over time. Workers on ShiftSee can pick up shifts at multiple businesses, negotiate their rate, and build a reputation that follows them everywhere.
Any business that employs hourly shift workers — restaurants, cafés, hotels, dance studios, cleaning services, catering, trades, and more. And any worker who wants flexible shift work with negotiation power.
Both the business and the shifter pay 10% per shift. No subscriptions, no setup fees, no minimums. You only pay when a shift happens. See our full Pricing page for examples.
ShiftSee is available as a web app and as iOS and Android apps. You can use whichever works best.
Signing up is free and you can explore the whole product. You only pay when a shift completes.
Invite them. Each business account can send unlimited invites via text, email, or a shareable link. Your staff creates a free shifter profile, connects to your business, and starts receiving shift opportunities.
Yes. Many businesses start there. Others use Broadcast Shifts every day. Use what fits.
If a shifter is more than 5 minutes late with no cancellation, you can mark the shift cancelled at no cost to you. The shifter receives a no-show on their record. Three no-shows and the shifter is removed from the platform.
Yes. You can disconnect from any shifter at any time, which removes them from your crew and prevents them from seeing future shifts from your business.
ShiftSee is a technology platform that connects businesses and shifters. How you classify your workers (employee vs. contractor, T4 vs. T4A, W-2 vs. 1099) is between you, your workers, and your accountant. ShiftSee provides complete exportable records for every shift — dates, hours, rates, gross, fees, net — in CSV and PDF formats your accountant or payroll provider can work with. We're evaluating Employer of Record partnerships for businesses that want compliance fully handled inside the platform.
After a business confirms a shift complete, your payment processes automatically through Stripe Connect. Funds typically land in your bank account within 1–3 business days.
Yes, that's one of the core benefits of ShiftSee. Most shifters work at 2–5 places regularly.
For each shift offered to you, you can accept the rate as is or counter. On some platform features (like Broadcast Shifts) businesses set the rate upfront and shifters accept or pass. On targeted shift requests and scheduled shifts, you can always negotiate before accepting.
If a business cancels a confirmed shift more than 6 hours before start time, no penalty. If they cancel within 6 hours, they owe you 2 hours at the agreed rate.
You can start late as long as the business hasn't already cancelled. You can't start after the scheduled end time. We track how often you're late and by how much — it appears on your profile.
ShiftSee is a connection platform, not an employer. Your right to work in a given country is between you and the business hiring you. Please only accept shifts you're legally permitted to work.
You can disconnect from any business at any time. Previously-completed shifts remain in your history but you won't receive future shift requests from that business.
10% from the business and 10% from the shifter, per shift. That's it. No other fees.
Standard Stripe Connect payment processing fees apply (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction). These go to Stripe, not ShiftSee.
Before accepting any shift, the shifter sees the gross rate, the platform fee, and the net rate they'll receive. Full transparency.
Canadian businesses transact in CAD, US businesses transact in USD. Cross-border shifts handle FX at market rates at time of payment.
More than 6 hours before shift start, either side can cancel with no penalty. Within 6 hours, the penalty depends on who cancels:
If a shifter doesn't cancel and isn't present 5 minutes after the scheduled start, the business can mark it a no-show. Three no-shows and the account is removed from the platform.
Yes — as long as the business hasn't already cancelled. Lateness is tracked (frequency and average minutes late) and displayed on the shifter's profile.
All shifters complete identity verification before being able to work. Businesses see ratings and history before accepting a shifter into their network.
Yes. Every shifter profile shows their rating, number of completed shifts, on-time percentage, cancellation rate, and (with shifter permission) the types of businesses they've worked at.
Contact ShiftSee support immediately (details in the app). We handle disputes case by case. Serious issues result in profile flags or platform removal for the party at fault.
